Being supreme agency, the Food Standards and Safety Authority of India or FSSAI is responsible for controlling and supervising food safety. The FSSAI is responsible for managing and controlling the nutrition security.

There are two types of Food Standard Licenses are provided depending on the FBOs turnover, type of eatables business and area in which the foodstuff business is operated.

State License: This type of FSSAI License is issued by the State Government.
If the Area of eatables Business Operation is strictly comes under that state then state license is issued. To get this state license, the turnover of the foodstuff company must be within 12 lakhs to 20 crores. They are generically come in medium scale businesses category such as storage, supplier, wholesaler, distributor, foodstuff labelers, dairy units, caterer, and packers etc.



Central License: Central Government is responsible to issue this license to the eatables businesses whose turnover is more than 20 crores. Government Foodstuff agencies, import-export business of Foodstuff products, large scale foodstuff companies are comes under this category.
The foodstuff business that deals with only exporting should get this FSSAI Central license. The eatable business operators whose head office present in more than one state then they should also get Central License.

Manufacturing Capacity is also considered in this category, such as
The production quantity of food items (excluding milk, milk products, meat and meat products) should be less than 100kg in a day Procurement, handling, and collection of milk must be up to 500 kg per day. Slaughtering capacity of Foodstuff Business Operators should be less than 10 small animals or 2 large animals or 50 poultry birds per day.
Other than Manufacturers, the petty food business should get the FSSAI Registration for sure.
